Rescuers bring lost woman out of wilderness
Vail, CO Colorado
EAGLE COUNTY ” A hiker was found shortly after 11 a.m. after she was lost in the Mount of the Holy Cross area, authorities said.
Rescuers found Emily Thompson, 31, in a boulder field off the Half Moon Trail, which leads to the summit of the 14,000-foot-plus mountain, authorities said.
It took rescuers several hours to hike down with Thompson because she was dehydrated, said Deputy Tim Comroe of the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office.
Thompson was not injured, authorities said.
“They probably will be out until 6 p.m. tonight,” Comroe said.
Thompson called 911 on her cell phone around 5:30 p.m. Monday, saying she was lost on the Half Moon Trail.
After being separated from a friend, whose name was unavailable, Thompson spent the night in the boulder field with food, water, a rain jacket and a sweater, Comroe said.
Thompson, who has family in Vail, began hiking about 8 a.m. Monday, authorities said. Monday night, Thompson had good cell phone reception with rescuers from Vail Mountain Rescue Group, authorities said.
