EAGLE, Colorado – Eagle’s 1978 retired Ford fire truck is off to save more lives – in McCoy, Bond and Burns.Last week the Greater Eagle Fire Protection District donated the truck along with other fire accessories to the Rock Creek Volunteer Fire Department. The Rock Creek department was formed in 2008 and serves the 244 square miles of northern Eagle County.Greater Eagle Fire Protection District Chief Jon Asper said Eagle has outgrown this truck and it was just sitting in the station, doing no good.”The deal is that this is two fire departments helping each other – making good use of tax payers’ money,” said Asper. “That truck has saved a lot of lives and has done a lot of good work over its career and now its career will be extended.”Asper estimates the truck will serve the Rock Creek Volunteer Fire Department for five to six years.”We are ecstatic about having this truck,” said Brita Horn, chief of Rock Creek Volunteer Fire Department. “It is exactly what we needed for this department.”
