VAIL, Colorado – The Farmers Market in Vail continues its jazz tradition Sunday when the Vail Jazz Foundation presents the Rick Weingarten Trio, free in concert from noon to 3 p.m. at the Vail Jazz Festival stage outside Annie’s on Meadow Drive.
The trio features Rick Weingarten on Vibes (vibraphone), Scott Mattson on drums and Bill Stephens on piano. With a unique jazz sound built on the warm tones of the vibraphone, the trio carries on a swinging jazz tradition harking back almost 80 years to Louis Armstrong and Lionel Hampton.
“We love playing in Vail,” said lead Rick Weingarten. “The market has great energy – folks are happy to just enjoy a beautiful day outdoors, and the music we play just makes it that much more special for everyone.”
Since 1990, Weingarten and the The Good Vibes Trio have performed at many festivals including the Westcliffe Jazz Festival, The Peoples Fair, Taste of Colorado, Boulder Creek Festival, and the Cherry Creek Arts Festival. The group has recorded and performed two live shows for Denver’s Jazz station KUVO, and has opened for the Don Byron Quintet and The Maynard Ferguson Big Band.
The Vail Jazz Foundation presents the blues, standards, vocals and straight ahead jazz at the Vail Farmers’ Market from noon to 3:30 p.m. weekly. Next week’s concert features the Max Wagner Quartet.
