Rifle: Illegal outfitter jailed
Vail, CO Colorado
RIFLE, Colorado – A Rifle man was sentenced to five days of jail in federal court earlier this month after he pleaded guilty to outfitting on federal lands without the required permit from the Bureau of Land Management in October 2006.
Mike Bishop, of Rifle, was also ordered to pay restitution of $1,575 and was ordered to forfeit all camp equipment that was seized in October 2006, which was worth several thousand dollars, for outfitting without a BLM Special Recreation Permit, according to the BLM.
The BLM requires that all backcountry guides obtain a Special Recreation Permit if they operate on BLM lands for profit, the agency said.
“This permit is in addition to any licenses or permits that may be required by other state and federal agencies,” the agency said in a news release.
Bishop is also prohibited from using BLM public lands for three years except for him to access his private property in the Piceance Basin. He pleaded guilty to the same offense in federal court. The first time came in October 2000.
