Rifle to expand solar power plant
RIFLE, Colorado ” The City Council has approved expanding the size of a planned solar power plant for a new wastewater treatment facility.
The council last week agreed to expand the plant to 1.72 megawatts, from 578 kilowatts. It is expected to be in production by next summer.
Any excess power the plant produces will be sold to Xcel Energy, Mayor Pro Tem Alan Lambert said.
“We’re trying to go green as much as we can,” Lambert said.
Another solar project is under way in Carbondale, about 30 miles east of Rifle. The town plans to buy the power from a 50-kilowatt system that will provide about 60 percent of the electricity need for a recreation center now under construction.
After eight years, the town can buy the privately owned system at a reduced price, according to the agreement.

Are we seeing more bears because there are more bears on the valley floor, or because we’re all spending more time at home? It could be a bit of both.
