Ring in new year in good health with ‘recovery’ 5K in Edwards

Daily staff report

EDWARDS — New Year’s Eve is rife with parties and excitement — and more than its fair share of revelers who party “in excess.” Without passing judgment, Speckled-Hound Racing invites all designated drivers, moderate drinkers and heavy lifters to come out on New Year’s Day and break a sweat at the first annual Hair of the Dog 5K. If the fresh air and exercise doesn’t clear your head and cure your hangover, then hit the bar afterwards for a little “hair of the dog that bit you,” or sample a tasty, nonalcoholic remedy.

The race starts at 11 a.m. at The Riverwalk at Edwards. The 5K course is suitable for runners and walkers of all fitness levels and open to adults, kids and dogs. Register online at http://www.active.com or go to http://www.speckled-hound.com for more information. Pre-registration is $25 for adults and $20 for youth and goes up the day of the race. Dogs run free of charge but must be accompanied by an adult and leashed. Speckled-Hound Racing will donate $5 from every sign-up to the Eagle Valley Humane Society, so come on out and start the off the new year right! Do something good for yourself and our furry friends on Wednesday, Jan. 1.
