Riverbend Studio artists’ work to be on display at Avon Library
A local art group, The Riverbend Studio, is holding an art show at the Avon Public Library community room during the months of January and February. A reception will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. The public is invited to come and meet the artists and view their work. Refreshments will be served.
The art group was formed by Dana Dunbar four years ago. She has provided members with a studio in her home, complete with lighted work stations, lounge, wet bar and TV. Painting sessions are held twice a week, Tuesday evenings and Thursday afternoons. There are currently seven artists in the group, all Vail Valley residents. They bring their paint supplies, styles and talents to the sessions and work individually. However they share ideas, food and drink and as Dunbar said, “sometimes even a little gossip.”
Dunbar said the energy generated by seven artists with their own ideas of style and media is “exhilarating, educational and just plain fun.” Some of the artists paint in watercolor, some in oils, some in acrylics and some in mixed media.
Dunbar is the most experienced artist who has taught painting and is a successful commercial illustrator.
Charmayne Burnhardt is a well-known artist in the Vail Valley. Her great love is watercolors, though she paints in all mediums and produces large murals as well as miniatures.
Bill Clinkenbeard paints in oils, watercolor, acrylics and ink. He says his style is “eclectic at best.”
Hatsie Hinmon’s passion for painting is fueled by her love of the outdoors and her nature scenes are rich in form and color.
Joann Carhart Levy paints in oils, sometimes using a palette knife. She often paints “en plein air,” that is, outdoors.
Kathy Moore is the newest member of the group, and her artistic endeavors range from drawing to painting to pottery.
Shanny Satterstrom loves the history of Colorado and captures it in oil paintings of old barns and other structures.
The Riverbend Studio spokesperson, Bill Clinkenbeard, says he hopes people will come out to their exhibition and share in the wonderful world of art.
