Road opens to offer more access to Buffalo Ridge

AVON ” One more piece in the big Village at Avon puzzle has been completed with the opening of Swift Gulch Road on Friday, north of the Interstate 70 ramps at William Post Boulevard.

The road, which runs parallel to the north side of I-70 and connects to the Post Boulevard/Traer Creek Run interchange, offers new access to the Buffalo Ridge apartments. The two-lane road is eight-tenths of a mile long and features an adjacent bike path.

The project was funded and constructed by the Traer Creek Metropolitan District, as part of the Village at Avon, which includes the Wal-Mart and Home Depot. The town of Avon also helped finance the road. As the Village at Avon development continues, Swift Gulch Road will be expanded to the east to connect to a planned residential area.

Originally scheduled to open in 2003, the construction was halted by redesigns, poor weather and high cement prices. However, Traer Creek president Dan Leary, said the wait has been worth it.

While Traer Creek now owns the road, it will be turned over to Avon by the end of the year, said Traer Creek spokesman Dan Christopherson. Avon will then police the roads, and Traer Creek will reimburse all direct costs to the town.
