Road Show hits the Brewery

Since the sports staff holds informal meetings every week at our favorite sports bar across the street, Paddy’s, we decided to pick another spot for our Vail Daily Road Show stop. Our top draft pick? The Gore Range Brewery in Edwards, where today at 4:30 p.m. you can pull up a stool at the bar for half-price drinks and half-price appetizers. You can also grab a spot next to our two sports reporters, Shauna Farnell and Nate Peterson, and let them know what’s on your mind.Consider this Road Show stop a little something like sports-talk radio, where you get the mic.Don’t think there’s enough coverage of a particular sport in the back of the paper? Sick of too much Tour-de-France coverage and not enough AVP beach volleyball coverage? Or vice versa?Well, drop by and let us know. Here in sports, we realize that not everyone who picks up their Vail Daily in the morning makes it all the way to the back of the paper. There’s a lot of good stuff before you get to sports – local news, Tipsline, Town Talk, Arts and Entertainment, classifieds, world news. To use a sports metaphor, we realize that our section, aside from World Cup week and the Teva Mountain Games, never has the poll position. However, there are those Vail Daily readers – our favorites, actually – who turn to the sports section first thing every morning to catch up on what’s happening locally and nationally. You check Scoreboard to see how far behind the Rockies are in the NL West. You see the shot on the cover of the Wednesday night mountain bike race and flip back to read the full story. You look forward to Sports around the Town every Thursday and Mountain Pulse every Friday. Some of you dedicated sports readers let us know from time to time when you like something or don’t like something. Feedback is essential to our job, so it’s great when we get positive comments on a local profile or an outdoors feature. It’s also good when we get callers who gripe about the section not having enough Wimbledon coverage, or too much preps sports. Those calls let us know that you’re reading and that you’re passionate about your sports. The intent of the Road Show sports edition is to let you know how much we care about that feedback. With this forum, you don’t have to call us or send us an e-mail. Just stop by and grab a seat. And perhaps a beer and some half-priced wings. We’ll listen as long as you have something to talk about. Heck, we’re sports writers, that’s what we love to do – sit and talk about sports. We’re not promising that your comments will prompt us to radically change our sports coverage, but they will let us know your likes and dislikes so that we can take them into consideration when we think of ways to improve the section. We don’t write stories for ourselves. We write them for you, which is why we want to hear from you.So head to Edwards Thursday at 4:30 p.m. and introduce yourself. Look for the Vail Daily Road Show banner and the two 20-somethings wearing Road Show T-shirts. If you can’t make it, you can also stop by Paddy’s on Wednesday nights to put in your two cents. Just be sure to leave Mike, our favorite bartender in the valley, a fat tip.Nate Peterson can be reached at 949-0555, ext. 608, or at, Colorado
