Rocky Mountain Nat’l Park’s Trail Ridge Road closes
ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK, Colorado – Trail Ridge Road through Rocky Mountain National Park has officially closed for the season.
The road billed as the country’s highest continuously paved road had been closed since Oct. 4 due to drifting snow, high winds and temperatures below freezing above 10,000 feet. Park Superintendent Vaughn Baker said Wednesday that with recent snow, wind, ice and forecasts for storms at higher elevations, officials decided to officially close the road for the season.
The road reaches an elevation of 12,183 feet.
Last year it stayed open until Nov. 6. The park says the average winter closing date is Oct. 23.
