VAIL — Vail Village’s Root & Flower will be expanding upon its passion for wine education with a 10-session sommelier training course aimed at preparing participants for upcoming sommelier testing, along with providing an in-depth program for wine enthusiasts to immerse themselves in the particulars of the industry. The program is spread out over five months and will run from June to November, meeting every other Wednesday.

Course takers will have the chance to work with Jeremy Campbell, co-owner of Root & Flower, who passed the Master’s Theory portion of the sommelier exam in March. Campbell said that the class would provide structure for those looking to embark upon the journey of becoming an accredited sommelier, although participants of different backgrounds are welcome, as well.

‘TASTE WINE LIKE AN EXPERT’

“This is a course designed for the career sommelier, as it provides the structure to excel in their workplace and through the many levels of testing for sommelier accreditation,” he said. “However, this is also a perfect class for anyone looking to expand their knowledge of the geography and styles of every wine region of the world and to offer participants the ability to taste these wines like an expert.”

Campbell’s own experience working toward his master sommelier’s pin will provide the backbone to the course, with instruction on blind tasting, service and theory providing the focus of class material, along with a detailed plan for at-home study to help in the process. Guest speakers will help provide insight into different parts of the program, as well, and those enrolled can take advantage of 15 percent off at Root & Flower for the duration of the course.

The sommelier training program is $350 for all meetings and materials, with a discount available for those already working in the food and beverage industry. Inquiries about the program should be sent to Root & Flower co-owner Samantha Biszantz at samantha@rootandflowervail.com.
