Rotary Award given out
VAIL ” Dr. Jack Eck, who has worked in health care in the Vail Valley since 1971, has won the 2006 “Service Above Self” award from the Vail Eagle Valley Rotary Club.
Among the accomplishments the club says Eck is being honored for is starting a clinic in Eagle where he still sees patients every week, establishing the Intensive Care Unit at Vail Valley Medical Center in 1980, raising money for the hospital, helping to open the Shaw Regional Cancer Center in Edwards and serving as medical director of the area’s hospice program, which he helped set up.
Eck also was a member of Vail’s first mountain rescue group, created the Vail Ski Patrol’s first medical training program and set up the first cardiac program for the Ski Patrol based on his experience in Vietnam, the club said.
Along with a certificate, Eck received a $500 award from the club.
