Rubin wins scholarship from Vail Valley golf group

AVON, Colorado ” Matt Rubin, a five-year employee for the Beaver Creek Golf Club, has been awarded a $1,500 Higher Education Scholarship from the Eagle Valley Golf Course Environmental Group.

Rubin was a dedicated employee on the golf maintenance staff at the Beaver Creek Golf Course this summer and returned to Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J., this past fall. Rubin is scheduled to complete his degree in professional golf turf management early this year. This intense two-year program provides technical and management skills for golf maintenance operations.

Created in 1996 by the Eagle Valley Golf Course Superintendents, EVGCEG members meet and discuss environmental issues annually. Topics include water quality, noxious weeds, turfgrass and other golf course related issues. Rubin is the first recipient of the new EVGCEG scholarship, which is available to members of the community committed or employed in the “green industry.” All applicants were enrolled in an accredited school of higher education and pursuing a career in the “green industry.”
