Run for the Future is June 28 in Eagle
EAGLE, Colorado –The Western Eagle Valley Rotary Club’s annual Run for the Future will celebrate its 20th anniversary during Eagle Flight Days 2009.
The run is planned for June 28.
The event, which is a fund-raiser for the Eagle Rotary club, features a 10K run, a 5K run and a 5K walk. The 5K events take off at 7:30 a.m. and the 10K runs starts at 8:15 a.m. An all-ages-welcome 1K fund ruing starts at approximately 9:15 a.m.
The 10K and 5K race courses travel south on Broadway and circle through Eagle Ranch before returning to the starting line. All races start from 4th and Broadway Sunday morning.
Participants can pre-register at Alpine Bank in Eagle, US Bank in Gypsum or Maximum Fitness in Eagle-Vail through June 27. Registration is $25.
Registration will also be accepted on race day beginning at 6:30 a.m. Registration continues up to 20 minutes before each scheduled event. Race-day registration fee is $30. Race-day registration will be located at 4th and Broadway. The registration fee includes a T-shirt and refreshments.
An awards ceremony starts at 9:30 a.m. at 4th and Broadway. Awards will be presented to the top three male and female finishers in several age categories as well as the top male and female overall finishers. All participants are eligible for various door prizes.
The Run for the Future is a memorial for Jake Brock of Eagle. Brock was an enthusiastic participant in the race before his tragic death at the hands of a drunk driver. In Jake’s memory organizers ask that everyone remember never drink and drive.
Snow usually comes and goes in this part of the state. A forecasted storm is expected to stick around for a while. Forecasters are calling for snow to persist throughout the weekend in the high country, with a prospect of a couple of feet of powder by the time the storm starts to diminish on Monday.
