Run for the Roses gala in Beaver Creek
VAIL Parents, friends and supporters of Stone Creek School will salute the 134th running of the Kentucky Derby on May 3 at the Park Hyatt Beaver Creek, using the festive occasion to raise much-needed funds for the fledgling but high-achieving charter school in Avon.
We chose the Kentucky Derby because the race reflects our mission: Go Boldly! said Kathy Fort Carty, president of Destination Services of Colorado and chair of this years event. At Stone Creek School we believe in the potential of each and every child for greatness, much as any horse running can win the Kentucky Derby.Stone Creeks focus on greatness has already shown results: in its inaugural year, the school showed outstanding CSAP test scores, with Stone Creek students outscoring all state averages, in all grades, for all subject areas. Traditions from the Derby are borrowed for the occasion, including a competition for the most spectacular hat, and a mint julep bar in the inner circle. Highlights from the races add to the excitement of the extensive silent auction, and the gala dinner comes alive with a live auction featuring exceptional items including: A week at the unique and quaint Mariposa B&B near Tulum, Mexico.Private Chefs table dinner at the Park Hyatt Beaver Creek hosted by Chef Pascal Coudoy.Private catered dinner in your home by a Colorado caterer.A week at a stunning beachfront condo near Sayulita, Mexico.Class art projects, including 6th and 7th grade jewelry.Restaurant, service and activity certificates. After all auction items are won and all bets are settled, the Johnny Mogambo Band, featuring Stone Creeks very own thoroughbred, John Linderown, will take the stage. The Derby is the result of hundreds of people and businesses working together to support the school. Parents solicit live and silent auction items, sponsorships and other support, and assist with the production of the event. The Kentucky Derby fundraiser is a group effort, and its exciting to see it all come together, said Sandy Apps, PTA president. We receive tremendous support not only from local businesses and parents, but also from the other schools in the valley, with parents from virtually all local schools in attendance said Kevin Kromer, chair of the Stone Creek School board. Everyone believes in great education for our kids, and this is just another way to show your support and have fun. All this hard work pays off. The inaugural 2007 event raised over $75,000 for the school, with 175 guests in attendance. Tickets to the Kentucky Derby are available for $100 each, and tables are still available for purchase. Tickets will also be sold at the door on May 3, but organizers recommend you make your reservations now. Contact Stone Creek School at stonecreekschool.org or 748-4535 to make your reservations.
