Safe drug disposal at Vail Valley senior health fair
VAIL VALLEY, Colorado – Expired, unwanted or unused drugs can be dropped off at Wednesday’s free Senior Health Fair in Edwards. The fair takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Eagle County Health Service District facility in Edwards. Medications should be disposed of properly to avoid misuse or accidental poisoning as well as to keep them out of rivers and creeks, organizers say. Stu Read, Vail Valley Medical Center director of outpatient pharmacy Services, said medication mistakes at home are the most common cause of accidental poisoning.”Using the Safe Drug Disposal Program protects the environment, including our rivers and local water supply, by reducing the amount of drugs in wastewater” said Chris Maines, wastewater division manager for the Eagle River Water & Sanitation District. Wednesday’s health fair is the third drug collection event held in Eagle County since the program launched in August. The Senior Health Fair provides a variety of health screenings and health-related information for Eagle County adults age 60 years and older and is sponsored by Eagle County’s Aging and Adult Services and the Eagle County Health Service District.Call 970-479-7253 or 970-569-7675 for more information.
