Sandbar Sports Grill
2161 N. Frontage Road
This sports bar has a beachy feel, with open spaces and a large wall of windows. Mounted fish figures, surfboards and skis line the brick walls along with 28 flat screen TVs. The bar stands in the middle of the joint, between the wooden tables and the dance floor.
The Baja-style menu offers California favorites, from salads to fajitas to pizza. But if you want a Sandbar specialty, order the fish tacos with soft shells, served in picnic-style wicker baskets with tortilla chips and salsa. Don’t feel like fish? Get the carne asada tacos, loaded with meat in a light sauce.
Beware the Category 5 Hurricane, a potent concoction of loads of rum only for the brave. For a fruity drink, Sex on the Slopes is a good mix of vodka, peach Schnapps and fruit juices.
The spicy Joey Wings are the most popular of six types of chicken wings on the menu. The Cabo Chopp Salad has tons of feta, black beans and chicken over dark greens with mustard dressing and is served with two pieces of crunchy garlic bread.
After dinner, head to the dance floor, complete with a disco ball, DJ booth and stage. And if you feel like lounging, there are some comfy couches in an alcove in the back.
