Santa Claus to attend Riverwalk Tree Lighting in Edwards
VAIL – Friday marks the final event in the first annual Riverwalk Old-Fashioned Christmas in Edwards. The seasonal festivities included a holiday window painting contest that yielded 10 decorated storefronts, and the “Great Fruitcake Open,” a judged competition that sought to debunk the myth that fruitcake isn’t delicious. The judging panel awarded local artists Ellen Edgerton and Monika Gehl first place for their mural at Old Forge Pizza and Mert Jorgensen took home top honors at the Fruitcake Open.
Today’s festivities include live music by carolers and musicians, along with a Tree Lighting ceremony and a visit with Santa Claus. The evening wraps up with Santa reading family holiday stories at The Bookworm. Story-time begins at 6:30 p.m.
Donated by Brush Creek Dry Goods, the Riverwalk Christmas Tree is located adjacent to The Bookworm. The 12-foot tree will be lit up for the holidays at 5 p.m. tonight. Santa will visit with his fans beginning at 4 p.m. in the same location. Tonight the winner of the People’s Choice Award for window painting will be announced; ballots are available at The Bookworm.
