Saturday is Record Store Day
The fourth annual Record Store Day is Saturday, and once again Eagle Valley Music & Comics is a very active participant. Record Store Day, which brings together fans, artists and independently owned record stores, is celebrated world wide on the third Saturday of April. Many musicians, from Regina Spektor to Drive By Truckers, do their part to support indie record stores on this day by making special appearances, performing, doing meet and greets with their fans and by issuing special vinyl and CD releases along with other promotional products to mark the occasion. This year looks to be the biggest ever, according to Tom Robbins, the owner of Eagle Valley Music & Comics in West Vail. “We’ve brought in more the twice the vinyl pieces this year,” Robbins said. “Some truly amazing items, all limited editions, and many of which are hard to come by, even in a big city.”There are 10-inch and 7-inch vinyl records, colored vinyl and picture discs available. “We have some Hank III colored vinyl re-issues, which the label says only 340 are available at retail stores nationwide. It’s amazing that we got any, but we did,” Robbins said. The list goes on and on of pieces available for purchase, with artists from Phish to The Grateful Dead, Bruce Springsteen to Daft Punk, and Bad Brains to The Beach Boys. Many are colored vinyl, picture records, or pressings made exclusively for this event, Robbins said. There are many exclusive CD’s available too. A list of items possibly offered can be seen at recordstoreday.com. “These items are all so limited that some were allotted, and some were simply unobtainable, but the vast majority of items were brought in,” Robbins said. “Many items are only available in small quantites, so be sure to go in and get yours before they’re gone.”There’s also lots of free stuff – swag as it’s called – with purchase. CD samplers, reusable record bags, Coachella books containing a CD sampler, and much, much more.Eagle Valley Music & Comics, in the valley for more than 27 years, is located in The West Vail Mall, in the back row behind the food court, between West Vail Liquors and Sandbar. They’re open for this event, just like every day, from 10 am until Midnight, and can be reached at 970-476-1713. “Help support local retail and your independently owned music and comics store by attending this special day,” Robbins said.
