School district hires two elementary principals

EAGLE – The Eagle County School district has hired two new elementary school principals for the next school year. Both new principals already work in the district.Cyndy Secrist, now the principal at Edwards Elementary, will replace Ann Marie Sanders, who is retiring at the end of this school year at Eagle Valley Elementary. Secrist’s move means the district is now looking for a new principal in Edwards.The other new principal is Heather Eberts, who will replace current Brush Creek Elementary principal Chris Mayhew, who is also retiring at the end of the school year.”We had a very strong pool of candidates for these openings and Cyndy and Heather both bring a wealth of experience and passion to the positions they have accepted,” Superintendent John Brendza said.Secrist has been the principal at Edwards Elementary since 2002. Before taking that job, she briefly worked at Eagle Valley Elementary as a special education teacher, and was the principal at Pagosa Springs Elementary School from 1992 to 2001.Eberts is currently a master teacher at Avon Elementary School, a job she has held since 2003. Eberts worked as the assistant principal at Howard Middle School in Orlando, Fla. from 2000 to 2003; as the assistant principal at Hunter Creek Middle School in Orlando from 1998 to 2000; and as the assistant principal at Floresta Elementary in St. Lucie County, Fla. in 1998. The district continues its search for a new principal for Battle Mountain High School. Former principal Mark Bullock left that job in January of this year.Vail, Colorado
