AVON — If you’ve ever visited the Math & Science Center in Grand Junction, then you would know how kids and adults alike can spend hours tinkering and playing with all of their interactive math and science exhibits. On Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m., these same science specialists are visiting Walking Mountains Science Center with some fun, hands-on science stations and experiments.

Kids in second through fifth grades will discover how the world works by playing with a variety of hands-on experiments and demonstrations presented by instructors from the Math & Science Center. Visitors will work through interactive learning stations covering many science, technology, engineering and math concepts.

Specific activities on Saturday will focus on chemistry, engineering and biology. Kids will be able to interact, create their own hypotheses and find conclusions to experiments concerning the following:

Testing strawberry DNA.

Testing surface tension through chemistry.

An activity related to sound.

Snap circuits and experimentation with electricity.

Building and experimenting with water rocket engineering.

The Math & Science Center of Western Colorado was founded by former Los Alamos National Laboratory experimental physicist John McConnell in January 2000. JMMSC puts the basic elements of science out on tables for students and adults to investigate hands-on, bringing math and science alive on a personal level for each visitor.

Reservations for this event are recommended. Call 970-827-9725 or email info@walkingmountains.org.
