AVON, COLORADO ” Cover charge at Finnegan’s Wake? Nada. Appetizers? Free. Date with one of the valley’s top singles: Actually, that one’s going to cost you, but hey, proceeds go to charity so why not bid on a dinner with that hottie you’ve been eyeing?

The Vail Daily will auction off dates with the valley’s top five bachelors and top five bachelorettes Tuesday night as part of our annual contest to pinpoint the valley’s most scintillating singles. Proceeds go to the Vail Valley Salvation Army.

Top bidders will take home a sizeable gift certificate to a local restaurant like Dish or Ray’s, and, of course, the privilege of cozying up to our picks.

Spend an evening with Gabe Hogan, a TV producer with a culinary flair, Chaun Powell, a trauma consultant who has visited 36 countries, Tom F. Stickney II, a golf pro magazines gush over, John Childers, an outdoorsman who takes his dog on hikes, or Keegan Winkeller, an architect type with a wild side.

From the ladies’ camp, we’ll debut Kristin LeFevre, a hometown girl who works with kids, Marie Gustafson, an outgoing entrepreneur, Jenna Johansen, a passionate cook, Corey Lamothe, an adventurous realtor, and Maria Sison, a Judo champion who loves throwing themed parties.

Lamothe said she hopes to have dinner with someone who is fun, exciting and interested in donating some serious cash to the cause.

“I’m excited to go in and see how much money we can raise for charity,” she said.

We selected the winners from a list of more than 60 nominees who emailed or attended our nomination event Nov. 2. The Vail Trail organized a similar contest last year, but this year we added a twist by holding the auction.

We’re hoping to attract at least 120 people to Finnegan’s Wake for the event, which features free appetizers and a cash bar. Whether you choose to bid, ogle or just lurk, the auction promises to be a good time for an even better cause.
