Search continues in Calif. for missing Colorado plane
FRESNO, Calif. ” The search for a motorized glider that disappeared from radar over the Sierra Nevada Friday has become more difficult because of falling snow.
The flight carrying a man and woman originated in Colorado. The pilot, who filed a flight plan with the Federal Aviation Administration, had stopped in Tonopah, Nev., before leaving Friday for Modesto, Calif.
Lt. Matthew Scherzi of the Civil Air Patrol said Monday that searchers would fly a 50-square-mile area near Mammoth Lakes, the general area where millionaire adventurer Steve Fossett’s plane was found last year.
Scherzi said 21 pilots flew 28 search missions Sunday.
Flying the Sierra can be treacherous because of occasional violent downdrafts.
