Search halted after man attacked 2 female hikers in Colorado

FORT COLLINS, Colorado – Authorities have suspended their search for a knife-wielding man suspected of attacking two women hiking in northern Colorado.

Larimer County deputies say the man held a knife to one woman’s throat Sunday in the Roosevelt National Forest. The pair fought him off with a hiking stick.

Deputies say they believe the man intended to sexually assault the women.

The women have been identified only as a 38-year-old from Eaton and a 46-year-old from Casper, Wyo. The Casper woman was treated for cuts to her hands and shoulder.

Deputies searched Sunday and Monday and set up roadblocks, but the search ended Monday night. The roadblocks were lifted.

No arrests have been made but investigators want to interview a hunter who they say was uncooperative at a roadblock.
