BRECKENRIDGE – The search for a missing rafter in the Arkansas River has been postponed due to high water. Officials plan to resume the search on Aug. 18, once the river’s water levels recede.
Breckenridge resident Kimberly Appelson, 23, fell out of a raft at the river’s Frog Rock rapid on July 11. Rescue workers have conducted several searches but have not found her. The river’s flows, controlled by the Bureau of Reclamation, were scheduled to be reduced for a few hours this week to facilitate a recovery effort, but heavy rains in the area have added to the volume of water in the river, and the search was called off.
