Second ballot question will address jurisdiction

Edward Stoner

VAIL ” A second question on the Vail municipal election ballot Nov. 8 addresses a housekeeping measure that seeks to amend the Vail Town Charter.

The measure would limit the town’s municipal court jurisdiction on matters such as zoning and land-use appeals.

If approved, those appeals would continue to be handled in Eagle County District Court. The municipal court would be limited to handling matters such as criminal cases.

A recent decision by the Colorado Supreme Court requires that home rule cities such as Vail use municipal courts to handle matters such as zoning and land-use appeals.

Another question on the ballot asks voters to consider up to 1.5 percent in additional lodging taxes to fund the proposed Vail conference center.
