Semi crash closes I-70 near Wolcott
EAGLE COUNTY — Westbound Interstate 70 near Wolcott was closed for three hours because of a jackknifed semi Thursday.
At about 11:50 a.m., a semi-truck and box trailer was traveling westbound on Interstate 70 near milepost 158 in a left curve when the trailer lost traction on the snowy road. The semi jackknifed and skidded counterclockwise off of the left side of the road, where it collided with a guardrail with its front.
The semi trailer then collided with the guardrail on the opposite side of the road. The semi truck and trailer then skidded to a stop, blocking both westbound lanes. About 200 feet of guardrail was damaged during the crash.
The 20-year-old Expedited Trans driver, Noel Guiermond from Boynton Beach, Fla., was uninjured in the crash and was issued a citation for careless driving. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
Interstate 70 was closed from 11:50 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for the crash investigation and the recovery of the vehicle.
