Senate confirms Buescher for Colorado secretary of state
DENVER, Colorado ” The Senate in Denver has unanimously approved the appointment of Bernie Buescher to be Colorado’s secretary of state.
The Senate voted 33-0 Wednesday to back the former state representative from Grand Junction. He’s scheduled to be sworn into office later in the day by Colorado Chief Justice Mary Mullarkey.
As a former member of the legislature, Buescher was able to watch the confirmation vote from the Senate floor, accompanied by his wife Mary Beth.
Buescher will be the first Democrat to hold the secretary of state’s office in nearly five decades. Senate Minority Leader Josh Penry, R-Fruita, praised Buescher for always being civil even when they had disagreements.
Buescher replaces Mike Coffman, who was elected to Congress in November’s election.
