Senate incumbent Bennet begins petition drive

DENVER – Sen. Michael Bennet’s campaign has begun a petition drive to get his name on August’s primary ballot.

Bennet’s campaign spokesman Trevor Kincaid Saturday says the move is part of an overall campaign strategy and has nothing to do with last month’s precinct straw poll that indicated the Democratic Party’s faithful favoring challenger Andrew Romanoff.

Would be candidates must collect 1,500 signatures in each of Colorado’s seven congressional districts, which Kincaid says will help them meet voters in each of those districts. Kincaid says campaign workers are also collecting promises from voters to support Bennet in the election.
