Seven certified for Vail council race

VAIL — A combination of familiar faces and new names will seek four seats on the Vail Town Council this fall.

As the Friday deadline passed for candidates to submit valid nomination petitions, seven candidates declared their intent to run for four available seats.

Ludwig Kurz is the only current incumbent to submit a petition. Council member Dale Bugby did not. Mayor Andy Daly and council member Margaret Rogers have served two consecutive terms and cannot run for a third.

Who is Running

Former council members Dick Cleveland — a former mayor — and Kevin Foley will be on the ballot. Cleveland was last on the council in 2011. Foley last served in 2013.

That leaves four candidates seeking a first term on the board:

• Dorothy “Doe” Browning.

• Mark Christie.

• Kim Langmaid.

• Jen Mason.

Ballot order for the candidates will be conducted by a random drawing, set to take place Monday at 9 a.m. at town hall.

While the ballot is set, anyone who wants to run as a write-in candidate still has to register with Vail Town Clerk Patty McKenny.

While Vail voters can cast absentee ballots, the Nov. 3 election is a polling-place election, with all voting taking place at Town Hall from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Absentee Ballots

The absentee ballot application form is available from the Town Clerk’s Office or on the town’s website, http://www.vailgov.com. The deadline to submit an absentee voting request form for out of state delivery is Oct. 30 to be able to return the voted ballot to the Town Clerk’s Office by the Nov. 3 deadline. Anyone receiving a mail-in ballot becomes ineligible to vote at the polls. Absentee voting will begin at the Vail Municipal Building Oct. 22 and will continue through Oct. 30 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Vail Chamber & Business Association will host a candidate forum Oct. 13 at Donovan Pavilion. That forum is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m.
