Shakedown Street at Agave in Avon tonight with original members
Vail, CO Colorado
The original members of Shakedown Street, one of the longest running Grateful Dead tribute bands, are reuniting for show at the at Agave tonight.
Shakedown Street has called the Rocky Mountain region home since it formed in Manitou Springs in 1987. The band’s popularity grew quickly, garnering a legion of loyal fans who refer to themselves as “Shakeheads”.
Over the years, the band has changed its lineup many times, however, when fans think about Shakedown Street they think of Ted Galloway and Rick Starkey, the band’s founding members. When the founders retired in 2008, the band trudged on, struggling to replace the two mucisians, but no matter who was playing, it just wasn’t the same. Not only did Galloway and Starkey bring a unique sound to the stage, they brought a strong sense of community and family – something the new lineup could not even come close to accomplishing.
Missing the vibe of the original band, among other things, long-time member and Vail local Jake Wolf stepped down three years later. He currently runs the Rocky Mountain Grateful Dead Revue, which includes the Dark Star Orchestra as a member. Wolf spent 15 years in Shakedown Street and is proud to have held the torch for that long.
To celebrate 26 years in Colorado, the original lineup has decided to get together for this show, making tonight something truly special for “Shakeheads.” To make the evening even more magical, a portion of the profits are going to a music camp for underprivileged kids at State Bridge.
The event is also taking part in an instrument drive for the camp and the Avon Elementary School of Rock . If you bring an instrument to donate you will receive free admission and a round of drinks.
The show starts at 10 p.m. and tickets will be available at the door for $10. For more information, call Agave at 970-748-8666.
