Verbatim Booksellers and the Vail Mountain School will host children’s book author/illustrator, Christopher Canyon and musician/songwriter, Jim Connor, for a special program on Thursday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., at Vail Mountain School Auditorium. The event is open to the public.

Canyon, an award-winning illustrator, has illustrated four books in the John Denver series of children’s books. Canyon is also an accomplished musician and a lifelong John Denver fan, performing for audiences of all ages across the country and sharing his vision of Denver’s songs through his illustrations. Connor will join Canyon for the release of “Grandma’s Feather Bed,” which he wrote with John Denver before his death. Connor’s musical fame includes his years with The Kingston Trio, John Denver, and others.

“We’re thrilled that (Connor will) be performing with his banjo in Vail and he’s equally excited to promote the book with us,” said Sandy Ferguson Fuller, a local resident and children’s publishing agent who helped conceive the idea of the children’s books featuring John Denver lyrics, prior to Denver’s death in 1997.

“Work on the project began prior to John’s tragic death in October, 1997,” Fuller wrote in an e-mail. “Subsequently we pursued the dream in celebration of John’s music and life.

“I hoped to share (Denver’s) vision with a whole new generation,” Fuller said.
