BEAVER CREEK — True to her name, which in Chinese means, “Spirit who brings awareness and divine intelligence,” local pop artist, Shen, began her career in her teens while living in the culturally and artistically diverse Silicon Valley in California. Being labeled with the name “ShenShen210,” she first expressed herself as a graffiti artist. Cans of spray paint in hand, Shen worked with existing gang-tagged designs, transforming them into eye-catching works of art. Her motivation was simple: Take something negative and turn it into something beautiful and inspiring. She strives to add color to a world that is often seen in shades of gray.

Shen soon exchanged cans of spray paint for the airbrush and quickly gained international attention. Written about, as well as featured multiple times in art magazines such as Airbrush Action Magazine, Shen quickly became one of the world’s top′airbrush talents.

Since her early years, Shen has been experimenting with many different types of media. While drawing from her wealth of technical and experiential knowledge, Shen has created a style that can be described as beautiful, carefree and sometimes poignant. Her works may be seen in the homes of Liza Minnelli, Jack Nicholson, Carroll Shelby and Clint Eastwood to name a few. Shen has also actively participated in the look of both public and corporate America, having been contracted by companies such as Adobe, Pixar, Bebe and Marriott, as well as hired by local governments for mural creation.

Shen enjoys painting and celebrating the lives of mythical pop figures such as: Marilyn Monroe, John Wayne and musical icons of the caliber of Jerry Garcia, Jimi Hendrix and John Lennon to name a few. Shen’s art can now be experienced in select galleries that span the globe and she can frequently be found teaching workshops across the United States, equipping others to add their own touch of color to the world.

Shen’s work and airbrush painting techniques can be viewed at the Horton Fine Art gallery in Beaver Creek where she will be found painting Thursday, Friday and Saturday. For further information, call the Horton Fine Art gallery at 970-949-1660.
