Shoshone boat launch to reopen Saturday
Vail CO, Colorado
|GLENWOOD SPRINGS – Boaters will be able to access the Colorado River at the Shoshone launching area starting on Saturday, according to officials with the White River National Forest.
A ruptured pipe at the Shoshone hydroelectric plant caused the boat launch to close
while workers cleared debris and assessed the situation. Rafting outfitters also will be allowed to resume operations in the Shoshone power plant area on Saturday, said Ted Hinricks, lead river ranger for the White River National Forest which administers permits for rafting companies operating in the Shoshone area.
Hinricks added that public parking in the Shoshone parking lot will be extremely limited. Boaters are encouraged to drop off their boats at the launch and park elsewhere, carpool or caravan when possible.
“There’s going to be very limited public parking until further notice because the parking lot will be used as a staging area for equipment associated with the power plant,” Hinricks said. “We are asking the public to be patient with the situation. It’s going to be a very congested parking lot for some time.”
