ShowDown Town adds one show to its lineup

VAIL – Conventional wisdom dictates that if five treats are good, then six will be even better, especially if they are all free. Fully subscribing to this theory, the Vail Valley Foundation recently finalized this summer’s ShowDown Town free concert series schedule, including an additional show for the 2005 season.”Going from five shows to six was really a function of the tremendous support that the American National Bank ShowDown Town has received from concertgoers, sponsors and the Town of Eagle,” said Ceil Folz, president of the Vail Valley Foundation. “Everyone wanted the series expanded, and we were able to make that happen for this summer.”The ShowDown Town concert series will run every Thursday evening from June 23 through July 28 with shows getting under way at 6:30 in Eagle Town Park. In addition to the free concerts, activities for children are built into each week’s schedule such as face painting, crafts or caricature drawings.Kicking off the festivities on June 23 will be the folk rock sounds of Rachel’s Playpen, while The Motet will offer up a unique blend of Afro-Cuban funk and jazz for the June 30 free concert.July’s shows will include the Louisiana roots stylings of Bluerunners on July 7, Vail native J.E. Borgen brings his touted brand of folk rock on July 14, and the Southern soul and funk of the Gamble Brothers Band is coming on July 21. The series will conclude with the bluegrass sounds of Hot Buttered Rum String Band on July 28.The ShowDown Town free concert series is a project of the Vail Valley Foundation.
