BEAVER CREEK — Susan Werner began her career young, making a U-turn from the opera scene and plunging into contemporary folk. Although new to the industry, Werner turned heads with her stage presence and thoughtful lyrics, evoking a combination of humor and resonance within her sound. The artist comes to the stage Wednesday night at the Vilar Performing Arts Center.
After five albums, she created a soulful jazz album with which she distinguished her sound. Her endeavors in country, jazz and folk, as well as her adaptation of pop songs into chamber pieces have proven that she is a musical chameleon — able to genuinely master any sound, as she was once dubbed the “empress of the unpredictable… in a good way.”
Werner is as comfortable performing on a dusty front porch as she is on the stage of a massive music festival. Her performances have shown her to be a well-respected folk artist in the contemporary realm.
