Ska rockers swoop into Vail Thursday
VAIL – Street Beat free concert series continues Thursday night with ska rockers Less Than Jake at Solaris in Vail Village. The concert is at 6:30 p.m. It’s been a wild and crazy ride for Gainesville, Florida’s Less Than Jake, who first met at the University Of Florida 20 years ago.”People have a preconceived notion that Less Than Jake is a ska/punk band, that we’re wacky and silly, and that may be a certain side of ourselves live, but there’s also another side and that’s a beautiful thing about our band – it’s multi-headed,” said drummer Vinnie Fiorello.Virtually blazing the trail for ska punk in the ’90s, Less Than Jake has headlined nationwide tours, played Warp Tour dates and even toured alongside Bon Jovi. The band is known for its high-energy live shows complete with vibrant horns, raucous group choruses and a general sense of music for music’s sake. Their Vail setlist is sure to include hits “Plastic Cup Politics,” “Liquor Store,” “Look What Happened” and other crowd favorites. Even after all of these years, Less Than Jake remains committed to quality over quantity. The guys refuse to rest on their laurels and are already talking about keeping the momentum going well into the future. “We can be different things at different times; we can be socially relevant and we can still be musically relevant 20 years after being together, still progressing musically, not only as players, but as far as musical direction,” Fiorello said. The Street Beat concert series has five more shows in the lineup this season: Lez Zeppelin on March 15; G. Love & Special Sauce on March 22; Rootz Underground on March 29; Kinky on April 5 and the final show on April 12 with Funkiphino. Also taking place on April 12 is the 2012 Grand Prize Giveaway of a brand new Volvo XC70. Locals of Eagle, Summit and Lake Counties with a valid ID can register to win the car at each Bud Light Street Beat concert. For more information visit http://www.vvf.org or call 970-777-2015.
