Skating legend Tony Hawk to visit Nederland

NEDERLAND, Colorado ” Skating legend Tony Hawk can perform practically any feat on a board.

When his feet arrive in Nederland, though, the legend wants to lay low.

Hawk plans to visit the town’s six month-old skatepark May 30 for a grand opening and dedication event, but the head of the nonprofit group that runs the park says Hawk doesn’t want to be the focus.

NEDSK8 Inc. executive director Randy Lee says events will highlight the achievement of volunteers in getting the $500,000 park built. The Tony Hawk Foundation gave $75,000 toward the effort.

The park is named after a Lafayette boy, Nathan Lazarus, who teamed up with Hawk on Fox TV’s “Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?” to win money for Hawk’s foundation.
