Ski Cooper opens 80 percent of terrain

LEADVILLE, Colorado – Ski Cooper, located near Leadville, opened 80 percent of the mountain Saturday morning for the 2011-12 ski season.

Lifts open daily at 9 a.m. and close at 4 p.m., and the rental shop is open 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. through April 8.

Ski Cooper has opened its new Magic Carpet to enhance its ski school experience this season, and the Chicago Ridge snow cat tours are open for reservations as well. Skiers and snowboarders are encouraged to make reservations for snow cat tours early in order to ensure a spot.

With a base altitude of 10,500 feet, and a summit at 11,700 feet, Ski Cooper is Colorado’s fifth oldest ski resort. It offers 2,400 skiable acres of skiing and snowcat tours. Its rich history embraces Leadville’s silver boom, the 10th Mountain Division’s training for World War II and more.
