Ski patrol tests Sunday and March 25
BEAVER CREEK ” Beaver Creek will hold tests for its ski patrol Sunday and March 25.
“These two testing days offer interested skiers, riders and tele-skiers the opportunity to come out, test their skills on a variety of terrain and show us what they’re made of prior to the end of the season,” said Addie McCord, director of Beaver Creek Ski Patrol
“We’ll be evaluating each candidate’s abilities in a variety of conditions, including steeps, crud, and powder,” McCord said. “We’re looking for men and women with strong, solid abilities in all conditions, not just finesse.”
The ski test consists of two to three runs taken in variable conditions and is evaluated by a group of Beaver Creek’s patrollers. Those who pass the test will be invited to fill out an application for next season. Patrollers are hired each fall before the mountain opens.
Each season, the Beaver Creek Ski Patrol has a handful of openings on its 40 member staff. The patrol opens and closes the mountain each day and treats and transports injured skiers and does avalanche-control work, among other activities.
To take the test, call 845-6610. Reservations are required and should be made in advance. Participants will meet at 9:30 a.m. at Patrol Headquarters at the top of the Cinch Express Lift (#8) on the morning of the test.
