Ski patroller dies in Squaw Valley avalanche
RENO, Nev. ” A member of the ski patrol has been killed in an avalanche at Squaw Valley USA ski resort near Lake Tahoe.
The Squaw Valley Fire Department says 41-year-old Andrew Entin was working on avalanche controls about 8 a.m. Tuesday when he was caught in a slide and partially buried.
Fire spokesman Pete Bansen says another member of the ski patrol dug him out while emergency crews responded to the scene, but he later died at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno. The cause of death is under investigation.
More than 4 feet of snow have fallen at upper elevations of the region over the last 24 hours. Nearly a 100-mile stretch of U.S. Interstate 80 is closed west of Reno.
