Skier dies at Beaver Creek Saturday

BEAVER CREEK MOUNTAIN – A 55-year-old Missouri man died Saturday after skiing into a tree.The man was skiing on the upper portion of the advanced intermediate trail, Harrier, when the accident occurred. He was not wearing a helmet, said Christina Schleicher, spokeswoman for the Beaver Creek Mountain.Beaver Creek Ski Patrol provided life support and took the man to the Vail Valley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Schleicher said.Saturday’s fatality was the first for Beaver Creek Mountain this ski season. There have been five deaths at Vail Mountain so far this season.The man’s name and hometown were not released.Eagle County Coroner Kara Bettis did not return a call requesting comment.Vail, Colorado
