VAIL – Spring Back to Vail, the annual festival that celebrates the close of the winter season, wraps up today with the World Pond Skimming Championships and a free concert from reggae band IRATION. The Spring Back to Vail Expo Village at the base of the Vista Bahn Express Lift and after-dark parties both take place today.

The World Pond Skimming Championships return to the Golden Peak base area for the 10th year on Sunday afternoon. A Closing Day tradition in Vail, skimmers from around the world gather in Vail to test their buoyancy on Lake Golden Peak in a spectacle that defies the laws of physics – and sometimes common sense. Competitors vie for the top prize – one of two 2012-2013 Epic Passes and the elusive title of Golden Skimmer for the top male and top female competitors. The World Pond Skimming Championships is a wet and wild time for guests of all ages. The venue will open at 1:30 p.m. today, and the competition will get going promptly at 3 p.m.

Reggae band IRATION will take the Spring Back to Vail stage at Solaris in Vail Village for a free concert to close out the event following the World Pond Skimming Championships at Golden Peak. The band mixes elements of reggae, rock and pop with keyboard-synth and melodic vocal lines. IRATION has a true understanding of how to put on a live show that keeps fans of all ages bobbing their heads to the beat. Local rockers Schwing Daddy will open. The venue at Solaris will open and music will start playing at 4 p.m.

Today’s schedule of events also includes Bud Light after-dark parties at Samana Lounge and The Club in Vail Village. Attendees of the apres and after-dark parties can expect great specials on Bud Light and lots of giveaways.

The Spring Back to Vail Expo Village will be at the base of the Vista Bahn today from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with expos from brands including Helly Hansen, Sprint, Maui Jim, Rockstar, Muscle Milk, Rustic Crust, Stonyfield Farms, Evol Burritos, Ski Bumper and MATADOR Beef Jerky and gear demos from Liberty skis, Nordica and Ramp Sports.
