Ski/snowboard students get Vail library cards
VAIL, Colorado -Sixth, seventh and eighth graders from Vail Ski and Snowboard Academy spent Tuesday afternoon at the Vail Public Library in celebration of International Literacy Day.Seventeen students joined library staff Annie Sinton and Jo Norris to discuss, learn and explore the library’s databases and others systems. All of the student-athletes signed up and used their own library cards, a first for most, to check out a free reading book. In addition, Sinton invited all students to participate in the Bookshelf Buddies. The “We the People” Bookshelf Buddies is a result of a grant received by the library from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association. More advanced readers will be paired with younger children to provide a one-on-one story time. Upper school students have the opportunity to read to younger students from the selection of books in the “Picturing America” series, the books included as part of the “We The People Bookshelf” grant program. Teachers interested in having their classroom participate in the “We the People” Bookshelf Buddies, whether lower school listeners or middle and high school readers, can contact Sinton at firstname.lastname@example.org or 970-479-2179.
