Slifer Designs honors Heaney for 20 years with the business

Daily Staff Report
Special to the DailyMarilyn Smith Heaney has been with Slifer Designs for 20 years, almost as long as the firm has been in business.

VAIL ” Slifer Designs saluted project manager and interior designer Marilyn Smith Heaney with “Marilyn Smith Heaney Day” on Tuesday.

Smith Heaney joined Slifer Designs in 1986, when the two-year-old interior-design firm was located in the basement of the Slifer Smith and Frampton Real Estate office on Bridge Street. She was an experienced designer, having worked with the Denver firm Joseph E. Hughes II Interiors prior to joining Slifer Designs.

Her experience has blossomed into a 20-year career with Slifer Designs. Some of her recent work includes private residences in Beaver Creek, Strawberry Park, Lake Creek and Vail. She was even asked to design a second homeowner’s primary residence in Newport Beach, Calif.

Beth Slifer, creative director and chief executive officer, said she has seen many clients come back time and again requesting to work with Marilyn.

“That is the greatest compliment,” said Slifer. “Marilyn is a huge asset to our organization and has made many clients happy over the years. We are thrilled to have her on our team,” Slifer continued.

One of Marilyn’s favorite projects is the older home that needs remodeling. She was recently published in Colorado Homes and Lifestyles for a Vail remodel.

“My philosophy is to provide not only gracious living areas, but to also create an atmosphere that reflects the client’s personality,” Heaney said. “I believe that developing good rapport is essential for my clients, and I value the ongoing relationship that ensues.”

In fact, one family has worked with Marilyn for three different homes in the Vail Valley, and also helped them with their grown-children’s homes as well. “We think Marilyn is the greatest.” said Joyce Bennis, a local homeowner. “I always look forward to working with her … she’s funny, smart and very creative,” Bennis said.

Marilyn is inspired by post-impressionist painters, particularly Van Gogh, Matisse and Gauguin, because of their use of color and imagery. A graduate of Wichita State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree, Marilyn has also traveled extensively around the world. Her hobbies include collecting vintage clothing and participating in Vail Valley Community Theater.
