Small Colorado town’s police are out of business

OAK CREEK, Colorado – The Oak Creek Police Department is out of business ” at least for now.

Elected officials in the town southwest of Steamboat Springs are deciding what to do after last month’s resignation of Police Chief Russ Caterinicchio and Sgt. Erik Foster.

The community service officer also left and part-time officer Eileen Rossi worked her last patrol shift of the season Friday.



The town board is considering contracting with the Routt County sheriff’s office to take over law enforcement. It has scheduled a work session on the issue Oct. 20 so residents can weigh in.

Oak Creek officials are trying to cut $65,000 from their budget and say personnel costs are a likely target.
