Small fire contained in equipment building at airport
EAGLE COUNTY — At about 5 p.m., Eagle County Regional Airport Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting was dispatched to a small fire at the airport. Preliminary investigations indicate the small fire started in one of the rooftop air handling units on the airport’s new Snow Removal Equipment building.
The fire was quickly contained and damage to the building is minor, affecting only the unoccupied offices on the first floor. The snow removal equipment building is still under construction and not yet occupied. The incident is not expected to delay the opening of the building significantly, which is expected to take place in the next 30 days.
Eagle County Regional Airport Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting, Gypsum Fire Protection District, Greater Eagle Fire Protection District, Eagle County Sheriff’s Office and Eagle County Paramedic Services responded to the incident. The cause of the fire will be determined following an investigation by the local fire officials.
Justin Fillmore and his dog Parker had no shelter from the storm when the snow arrived Thursday.
