Snow may dust Vail peaks

VAIL, Colorado ” Snow could fall above 9,000 feet during a storm expected to move into Colorado’s Vail Valley tonight and early Saturday, the National Weather Service says.
On Saturday, numerous showers and a few thunderstorms could produce heavy rainfall at times. Snow could fall above 9,000 feet making roads over mountain passes slushy.
The forecast for Saturday is a high near 58 with a 70 percent chance of rain, including a few thunderstorms. The forecast for Sunday is a high near 61 with a 60 percent chance of rain, and a few thunderstorms, the Weather Service says.
The forecast for Memorial Day is a 40 percent chance of showers, with thunderstorms possible afternoon, and a high near 60, the Weather Service says,
Scattered showers and thunderstorms could continue through Wednesday. Many western Colorado rivers, including the Eagle, could peak next week and cause flooding.
Wildfires have become more numerous, bigger and more destructive in the past 40 years. That’s a big deal in a town surrounded by public land.
