BRECKENRIDGE, Colorado ” A 22-year-old male snowboarder from Norman, Okla., is in grave condition at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood after being transferred from Breckenridge, Colorado on Tuesday afternoon with head trauma.

Mr. Khouri ” first name unavailable ” was not wearing a helmet when the incident occurred, according to hospital spokeswoman Julie Lonborg.

“He is in grave condition, which is worse than critical, so it’s not good,” Lonborg said. “And obviously our trauma- and neuro-surgeons would advise anyone visiting a ski resort, no matter expertise, to wear a helmet.”

The incident occurred on Frosty’s Freeway, an advanced-intermediate trail at Breckenridge Ski Resort. Ski patrol received the call at about 1 p.m. and responded immediately, according to an e-mail from resort spokeswoman Kristen Petitt.

The responders provided basic life support and brought Khouri to Breckenridge Medical Center before he was transferred by ambulance to the hospital in Englewood, according to the e-mail.

The incident is under investigation.
