Snowboarder dies at Breckenridge
BRECKENRIDGE – A 42-year-old man from the Denver area died Friday morning after hitting a tree while snowboarding at Breckenridge, according to a press release from Breckenridge communications coordinator Katie Coakley.Ski patrol responded to the intermediate Cashier trail immediately after receiving the call at about 8:40 a.m., Coakley said.Patrollers administered life support, then transferred the man to Breckenridge Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The victim was wearing a helmet at the time of impact.Summit County coroner Joanne Richardson said an autopsy will be done, although she doesn’t expect to know anything until at least next week.The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.Friday’s death is the first skiing fatality in Summit County this season, but not the first for Vail Resorts, which owns Breckenridge. Michael Combs, 42, died on December 14 after he suffered a seizure while snowboarding at Vail Mountain. Combs was the boyfriend of actor Clint Eastwood’s daughter, Alison. Less than a week later, 13-year-old Ashley Stamp was killed on Vail Mountain after she and a snowmobile collided while she was warming up for a race in the Golden Peak Race Arena.Stamp was from Steamboat Springs.Vail, Colorado
